Changing Lives Through Learning

Queen Elizabeth Grammar School

Founded in 1564 by Royal Charter, our school has been helping young people to secure outstanding academic results and providing a well-rounded experience for over 450 years. The school encourages students to take responsibility for their learning from the moment they join, ensuring they are well prepared for the challenges they face on their journey at QEGS. We are a growing school with 1040 students currently on roll, but remain sufficiently small to recognise individual talents and ensure everyone is challenged and supported to reach their goals.

David Marchant - Headteacher

Our vision is to succeed in ‘Changing Lives through Learning’ by providing the very best possible educational opportunities for young people. At our heart our core principles of respect for the individual, the encouragement of involvement within school and the wider community and the development of initiative to provide students with confidence and curiosity are promoted through all areas of QEGS life.

A small group of students has visited UCC this morning to see author Josh Silver. Josh spoke very frankly about the importance for our mental health of expressing our emotions and how those emotions can lead to creativity.

Josh's debut young adult novel, HappyHead, won last year's Cumbria Spellbinding book award and is currently in development for a movie. The sequel, Dead Happy is now out and Josh's new book, Traumaland will be published in May. Josh was so inspiring and our students were very excited to meet him!

A huge thank you to UCC Librarian Amy McKay for having us.

Year 7 & 8 enjoyed a high-energy creative writing workshop with author Helen Rutter on Friday afternoon. Helen's book "The Piano at the Station" was on last year's Cumbria Spellbinding Book Award shortlist and was popular with students. Helen told students how she became an author, and encouraged them to harness the power of ideas.
Thank you to Mrs Marshall for organising the event, and to the Hedgehog Bookshop for organising book sales.

Year 10 Paris Trip 2025 - Day 1!

The Y10 trip to Paris has made it across a peaceful and sunny Channel, and arrived at Château de la Grande Romaine.

We have settled in, had dinner and we are currently enjoyed our welcome Quiz night with our "animateurs".
