QEGS STUDENTS SING WITH THE NATIONAL YOUTH CHOIR OF GREAT BRITAIN

Helen Lawrence (Year 10), Kerran Cotterell (Year 11) and Sula Cotterell (leaver of 2015) all participated in a concert in the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 10th April as part of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain (NYCGB). NYCGB consists of a progression of choirs, starting with the Boys’ Choir (ages 9 to 15) and Girls’ Choir (ages 10 to 15), which Helen sings with. Kerran has just moved up the Training Choir – which is mixed and aged 14 to 18. Sula has just progressed to the main National Youth Choir – which goes up to the age of 22. Above that is the elite Chamber Choir , who perform on a professional basis.
The concert was breathtaking, with a rich and varied programme, ranging from Thomas Tallis’s Renaissance masterpiece Spem in Alium (in 40 parts), to newly commissioned works by Vikki Stone. Kerry Andrew and James Rose pieces were also performed, and the performance also including Balleilakka by Bollywood composer A.R. Rahman performed by the Training Choir – complete with Bollywood dancing.
